“The plan for today is…. How does that sound? What questions do you have?”

  • By phrasing things like “would you like heartworm prevention”, you are saying that as of now, heartworm prevention is off the table, but it can be on 
  • Instead, use phrases like “you are scheduled to get heartworm prevention today, do you have any questions for me?” 
  • In the second scenario, the owner has to consciously opt out of well planned care
