How to Survive A Veterinary Conference

April 10, 2017 by Andy Roark DVM MS

Last weekend was the first annual Uncharted Veterinary Conference in Greenville, SC. The #UVC2017 hashtag on Instagram definitely confirmed something: the attendees knew how to survive a veterinary conference!

1) Pick a gorgeous location.

Had a great stay at the Westin this weekend. #hotel #historic #UVC2017

2) Find other people that love learning.

It’s our morning tribe! Great minds at this table! @vetpracticevahs @dr_beevet @heathernicolegarcia7

3.) Keep your smartphone handy.

Sitting in a talk by @vetpracticevahs at @unchartedvet #uvc2017… Cody had record a personal video of who we are, just to get used to the idea of looking at ourselves on a screen. A simple task that is truly filled with fear for so many of us! Me included! I’m completely blown away at the amount of technology and knowledge that is available if we simply think outside the box. Cody was never classically trained to record, edit movies, post #vblogs, or build his own #YouTube channel… but here he is, completely crushing it!!! #veterinarian #vetlife

4) Grab some swag.

Who else is rocking #UVC2017 founding member swag like @drlindsaygallagher? ⚓️

5) Keep snacks handy.

6) Get your learn on!

I loved the message that telling your own story is most compelling. This was our video editing course. #uvc2017 #codycreelman

7) Take action on what you’ve learned.

8) Snag plenty of selfies.

@jackiemerc1 is making sure the #UVC2017 team members have the strongest selfie game in vet med. 💁🏼 (@daniellesnout, @kelseybethcarpenter & @drandyroark)

Omg. Too much fun with Dani! #uvc2017

11) Rest whenever you can!

@kelseybethcarpenter is a chipper anemic! #TeamIMHA @unchartedvet #UVC2017

13) Get a good group shot before you go.

Some people duck face, some people happy muppet face. End of a great weekend at @unchartedvet conference. #UVC2017

14) Go home and TAKE ACTION!

Double-tap if you’re ready to start something new after #UVC2017. ‍♂️(And maybe tell us what it is in the comments? ) #MondayMotivation
