Let’s be honest. Most of us are unconvinced that social media has made the world a better place. Sure, we love seeing friends and family vacationing, getting married, and producing small human beings. Most of us do not, however, enjoy the firehose of politics, fear and vanity that appears to be an entrenched part of the social media experience.
It’s time to use social media to make something beautiful and useful. If you’re looking for a new hobby that might grow your relationship with your colleagues and pet owners, here’s something to try.
Start an Instagram account. Take one picture of something that makes you happy or that you are grateful for every day. It can be a beautiful view, a smiling vet tech, a wiggly puppy, or some cheesecake. It doesn’t matter, as long as you’re grateful for it. Refuse to care what anyone else thinks or how many like your photo. Review your photos regularly.
That’s it. Snap and post one photo a day that makes you happy. Don’t vaguebook, start drama, or vent. It only takes a few seconds and forces you to think about what makes you happy, what you enjoy, and what you are grateful for. Whenever you look back, you’ll have a collection of the good in your job and your life.
